MAK Key or Multiple Activation key is a tool used for software activation. It can activate any Microsoft product for free using an emulated KMS Server.

You have two possibilities for Activating Windows License:

• MAK or Multiple Activation Key
• KMS or Key Management Service

Multiple Activation Key MAK

A certain number of licenses can be activated with this method.

For example, if you purchased 15 MS Office licenses, you can activate all of them with the provided product key.

In the MAK method, Every client, which is an individual PC has to be activated separately.

This activation is done through the Microsoft activation server.

MAK requires an internet connection for the product’s activation.

The advantage of this method is that it is permanently valid.

The disadvantage of this method is that it is very time-consuming.

Particularly if you have to carry out many activations at a time.

KIM SPico Key Management Service

KMS activation takes place through the internal network.

The individual clients have no direct connection to Microsoft.

A KMS host takes care of this instead.

The individual clients connect to the KMS host, and this host in turn connects with the Microsoft server for the activation.

This KMS activator tool is valid for 180 days.

After that, it needs to be renewed.

Usually, this is done automatically.

For Office Activation, a minimum of 5 applications are required.

For servers and operating systems, a minimum number of 25 is required.

The advantage is that it is speedy and easy to carry out.

Especially if you have many activations to do, this is the method for you to activate your Microsoft products with ease.

Windows 10 MAK

You have your desktop clients and servers on a network.

And you already purchased a volume license from Microsoft.

Once you get the license.

You will use it to activate the KMS from one of the Microsoft Activation Servers.

First of all, you have to make sure that all of your desktops and servers are ready and connected to the same network.

Now you have to activate them.

Remote users with a Windows 7 VM or Windows 8 and 10 can activate their Virtual Box over the VPN tunnel.

But once every three months they have to be on the same VPN network.

Now that everything is in place.

We can run a script to force the activation, so this is a script for a Windows Server 2016.

The main thing is that you first activate the Key Management server with Microsoft and put non-activated computers on the same network.

If you already know your KMS network, you can move to a different network and reset your changes.

And then activate it on a different network.

But it is not that easy and practical.

KMS is very very lightweight.

It is a small service that is installed on the DNS servers.

You can add it to a domain controller or the email server because it is very lightweight.

It doesn’t take up many resources at all.

It has to be something that everybody can connect to, all the time.

So adding it to an Active Directory Controller DNS server makes a lot of sense.

MAK Key Windows License

There are two main types of Windows licenses.

• Client Access License or CAL
• Microsoft Windows Server License

Client Access License or CAL

This license is used along with Microsoft Windows Server software licenses.

CAL is used to grant access to MS Windows Server software.

And let the users utilize the products.

Client Access Licenses are also required for all users to have access to Windows Server.

For the Window Server 2016 Essentials edition, CALs are not required.

You will need more user Client Access Licenses.

You will need more device Client Access Licenses.

Types of Client Access Licenses or CALS

There are three types of CALS:

• User Client Access Licenses
• Device Client Access Licenses
• Remote Desktop Service Client Access Licenses

User Client Access Licenses allow a single user to access Windows Server from an unlimited number of devices.

Device Client Access Licenses allow an unlimited number of users to access Windows Server from a single device.

Remote Desktop Service Client Access Licenses are required for users or devices that want to utilize Remote Desktop Services functionality on Windows Server.

Windows Server License

This license allows users to download and install the operating system onto the server.

Windows Server license does not allow the users to connect to the server.

For this, each user or device must have a CAL.

Types of Windows License Keys

• OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer Key)
• Retail Key
• MAK Key
